Once upon a time, there was a young girl who was fascinated by shadows. Today that woman, Auntie Tip, is renowned throughout Thailand for her shadow puppet performances.
Auntie Tip introduced her “Wandering Moon” show in 1998, drawing on her experience in the theater to get her started. She joined forces with the Makham Pom drama troupe and another shadow puppet team in southern Thailand where the traditional performance is better known as Nang Talung.
Applying the traditional movements and characters of Nang Talung to her shows, and adding a few original techniques of her own, Tip soon became acclaimed for her unique performances: narrating with the use of symbols; drawing the audience into the script of her show; and always conveying the miracle of life as a moral.
In 15 years the Wandering Moon has never stopped, yet it still searches new ways to communicate with the audience, such as by introducing social issues and environmental problems.
